jade:
I’m Jade de Robles Rossdale, the one who tells absolutely everyone that I was born on a Ryanair flight. I bang on about it so much, that It’s become my whole personality. Like a piece of old furniture that you really love and that you know you should maybe get rid of, but you just can’t. Because obviously I can’t backtrack now. Whether it’s true or not (I’ll leave that a mystery) it defines my double nationality which is a big part of who I am. Nationality aside, I like to tell stories through the medium of video. But I’m a budding amateur magician, a sign-language learner, and I’ve dabbled in a bit of poetry every now and then.
I’ve deleted Instagram off my phone because because as a freelancer it just guzzles me up when I’m supposed to be finding work, so in the absence of Instagram, my online indulgements have been the following:
please welcome jade to the floor!
this is the online bit:
★ The Drama with a capital D on Love is Blind ★
If you haven’t been watching Love is Blind, then where you have been? Complete with Megan Fox comparisons, men who are terrible at lying, epipen references and an extremely hot single mother of one who gets dejected, this season has not disappointed. Needless to say, the Reunion delivered.
★ Puffling: Baby Puffins Meet Their Unlikely Saviours, The New Yorker ★
This short documentary about a group of teenagers in Iceland who rescue Puffins and release them on top of cliffs. Exceptionally raw, beautiful and really emotional. Who knew puffins could be so incredibly moving?
This video by my forever queen Rosalía lives rent free in my mind. It is one of my favourites, not only because of her silky and powerful voice, but also because of her stellar performance, performed so beautifully inside a galactic spaceship room. La Llorona, which means the weeping woman, is a cover of the 1941 song written by the Mexican composer Andres Henestrosa which is said to be a love letter written by a Mexican soldier to his fiancée just before dying in battle.

☆ The not so perfect, Perfect Days ☆
I did go and see the new Wim Wenders film recently, Perfect Days. It’s a beautiful exploration of admiring the beauty in the simplicity of things. However, I don’t recommend watching it whilst under the influence of alcohol and a partner in crime who has the same short attention span and desire to discuss every single detail as you. Needless to say, said partner in crime and I left the cinema with more enemies than friends and all I can think about is that whenever those people think about the time they went to see Perfect Days, they’ll forever remember the two teenagers in the back row giggling away.
☆ Not working in the industry... ☆
No big news here, but the industry is a bit shit at the moment. As a freelancer it can be hard to navigate because you’re just like: has it always been like this? Is it me? Is everyone else feeling it? I feel like the media landscape was feeling smug during Covid, when the whole world was online and people wanted to spend, and now, well, with all the Wars, inflation, the big B word, and you know - everything else - the P’s aren’t being spent. And we’re all feeling it. So if you are reading this and thinking that you’re alone, I’m here. We’re all here. Content will find its moment again. Or will it?
☆ ...All I can think about is making broth ☆
Broth, broth, broth. Lovely, golden, delicious nutritious broth. Feels like the UK is only discovering this and back in Spain (remember I’m half Spanish?) we’ve been sipping on that golden liquid for years, but I appreciate the discovery. I think it should replace tea as the go to comfort blanket. Going through a break up? A cup of broth. Feeling under the weather? A cup of broth. Ideally make it with chicken, but for the veggies in the room, a bit of extra salt will just have to suffice.
