froomes:
Hello Joss mi’loovly, thanks for having me first and foremost. I had a good snoop of the archives and I am in fine company here tonight! Love your work.
I am Lucinda Price, known in polite circles as Froomes. I’m a writer and comedian.
Whenever I describe myself as a comedian in real life, someone says, “Oh so you do stand up?” like it’s 1980s. Then I’m forced to say, yeah, I’ve done a few live shows… it trails off… I sound like a flop… rinse, repeat. I’m coming around to the idea of calling myself an ‘internet personality’ but that kinda makes me feel like I’m trapped in a glass box… or held hostage by an army of those big ugly thumbs in Spy Kids! I started calling myself a ‘humourist’ for a hot sec there to dodge the stand-up bullet but it made me sound like I smoke a pipe. But I’m still standing! (Metaphorically.)
Can I just say doll, I love the ‘Sent from iPhone’ concept. That email feature always cracked me up… like, ok? We get it, you have an iPhone. I guess it was way more of a flex when the dried ups were still using Blackberries. It’s the same ilk as iPhone autocorrecting ‘OMW’ to ‘On my Way!’. Soooo flamboyant. I’d love to know how you feel post-Baby Reindeer? Martha jacked your style !
tip your fedoras girls!

george michael’s 2006 album, ‘twenty five’
Gripes I loooooove George Michael. I can still recall, with great clarity, the disappointment I felt as a kid when I learnt he was gay. How could he? I’m right here? I’ve loved him since I couldn’t wipe my own ass. This album is a three-disk moment, of all his greatest hits. My favourites are ‘Outside’, ‘Freedom ‘90’, ‘Fastlove, Pt1’, ‘Too Funky’ and ‘Amazing’. I also have a soft spot for ‘Cars and Trains’. It’s a dark song, about excess and self-destruction and throwing yourself under the aforementioned forms of transport. Sort of like a more glamorous New York version of ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ by The Smiths. Not exactly Sunday listening but still glossy in that GM way.
‘Outside’ and ‘Too Funky’ on YouTube…Mmm. The film clips completely match the music and capture the mood. Such beautiful synchronicity. Made during the golden age of film clips no less!
Creative director and artist Pablo Rochat on instagram, I love all his posts. He makes absurd things that make perfect sense. Executes them flawlessly. I thank him for adding a timeless POP of pure creativity to my Metaverse.
this bbc radio 1 nelly furtado cover by tame impala
My answers really aren’t passing the beshdel test this eve. But this cover by Tame Impala. They’re the first artist I felt true fandom for. I get fandom now!!! It’s sort of uncomfortable. Like I’m ITCHY. Something about the music makes me feel like I have chakras, and they are aligning, in this case for 4:42 bittersweet minutes.
this is the irl bit:
this artichoke dip
My old housemate used to make this artichoke dip that was like edible crack. It’s so wildly good that you have a spoonful and your eyes dilate. I feel evangelical about it. I created this TikTok of me making it last week. That’s another dream of mine, to have a daytime variety show where I make recipes and interview people. Like a mix of Graham Norton and Nigella. Is there a market for that?

writing 80,000 words
I just finished writing my debut book. It was an all-consuming process. In other words, it was fucked! Nothing quite like it. Before starting the project, I was so accustomed to instant gratification. Write my newsletter, publish it. Film a video, edit it, publish it. Cook the dip, eat it with bare hands. I’ve worked within those parameters for most of my career, so labouring over something with a lead time of years was a new sensation. Like wearing tight low-rise pants and you want to yank them up heaps but it’s just an uphill battle, it’s better to give in to the discomfort, keep them low and then one day they will feel comfy and you will be rewarded for bravely flaunting your plumbers crack with a book. This wasn’t really a recommendation but it is in a roundabout sense… I recommend the practice of self promotion. It’s coming out in September.
world of books online bookstore
On that! I crammed my brain with books throughout that process. Like waterboarded myself with the written word. Buying things second-hand also elicits that Tame Impala, George Michael ‘Outside’, Perfect, Synchronised Chakras sensation. This website has pre-loved, cheaper-than-retail books in oftentimes pristine condition. Free shipping. Takes a hot minute to come but it’s worth it. Crap, that’s also online but I feel like we are surely past the moment where that distinction is in any way meaningful.
Thanks for having me Joss, mi’loov! <3 consider me a hellbent subscriber to the sent from my iphone with love newsletter!
