rhys:
Hi my name is Rhys, I’m 26 years old, from Sydney and I currently live in Berlin. I repair iPhones for a living and also run the social media for a restaurant. I have a keen interest in film-making and I love to write screenplays. I’m delighted to come onto this sub-stack.
Releasing my own edition after some other notable peers (cat, vanity project girls) is making me feel… somewhat intellectually and culturally challenged. But as a friend once told me, “you’re only nervous because you care”… so maybe I will apply that advice here, and… yeah.
that’s my president!!
this is the online bit:
★ Firmoo (E-Commerce Prescription Glasses website) ★
At a party last October I saw an attractive gay man walk into the room wearing prescription glasses. Since then, my thoughts surrounding wearing glasses and being perceived as attractive have shifted. It turns out it is possible.
In high school, I wore glasses at all times and I felt for lack of a better word, fugly. This is why I now wear contact lenses full-time. This is not recommended as optometrists say it’s not very hygienic for the eyes to always have them in, and it’s recommended to give your eyes a break every now and again.
Recently a colleague I work with had some beautiful glasses on and I asked where he got them from. He told me about Firmoo, a website that sells a brilliant selection of frames with very competitive pricing.
I managed to get a great pair (with lenses included) for about 70 euros ($116AUD). Now I feel very confident and good about myself when I wear them day to day.
★ TikTok user @Carolinakowanz ★
@carolinakowanz describes her TikTok account as a safe place to learn English.
She came onto my for you page in January and she hasn’t left since. I had no idea that this account's purpose was to teach people English, I was simply convinced she was making online skits and she just spoke really slow and was devoid of any regular social cues.
I admire her commitment to character, plot devices and costuming. I may not be the core audience, but I can’t stop watching. I’m currently studying German, and if there was a Deutsch equivalent of this, I would probably find much more enjoyment in language learning.
Carolina Kowanz teaches her audience how to say earplugs in English.
★ Hanna (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) ★
The last time I watched Hanna was with my ex-boyfriend after he told me he didn’t see our relationship going any further.
I’ve always been a really big fan of the soundtrack because I love The Chemical Brothers and they did the score. Being back in Berlin [where the film partially takes place], I’ve been re-listening day-to-day, and I find it’s engineered quite well for listening on the train or running on the treadmill (and nothing else, really).
My favourite tracks are Hanna’s Theme, Escape 700, The Devil is in the Details, Quayside Synthesis, The Devil is in the Beats and Container Park.
this is the irl bit:
☆ Shake Shack ☆
Having the opportunity to go to shake shack again in February is one I don’t take for granted.
I had an excellent time biting into my meat and cheese only double cheeseburger with my cheese fries and malted vanilla shake that was 30 pounds.
I will be back
My order from Shake Shack at Westfield Stratford City
☆ ‘Parking angel’ ☆
‘Parking angel’ is the belief system that there’s a higher being looking over you in a crowded carpark, and they will take you to the spot that is meant for you.
My mum would use Parking angel frequently during the busier months of shopping centre trade, like around Christmas time at somewhere like Macquarie Center.
Recently, my dad used Parking angel when he dropped me off at the airport and after an uphill battle (quite literally, ascending each level of the carpark until we reached the eighth), we found our spot, conveniently right next to the elevator.
☆ Ray’s body ☆
When I returned to Sydney in January, Caterpillar Club wasn’t the only latest hot property I hadn’t been inside. I reunited with my best friend Ray, where he welcomed me with his open biceps. He is looking great lately and while I was in Australia, it was hard to take my eyes and hands off of him.
I don’t have a lot more to say on this… so I’ll let this picture I grabbed on holiday speak for itself.
